Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, sterile, single-use needles into specific areas of the body to promote healing. With origins dating back over 2,000 years, acupuncture is one of the world’s oldest and most respected systems of healthcare.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the body has over 2,000 acupuncture points connected by energy pathways called meridians. These pathways link to internal organs and help transport Qi (vital energy) throughout the body. Disruptions to Qi flow are believed to lead to illness and disease.

By gently stimulating acupuncture points with needles, along with techniques like massage, cupping, heat, moxibustion, and electrical stimulation, we encourage a healthy flow of Qi. Acupuncture can also enhance blood circulation, nutrient delivery, immune function, and the production of natural pain-relieving substances, neurotransmitters, and anti-inflammatory chemicals.

Acupuncture may be ideal for you if you:
-
Prefer a holistic approach to treatment
-
Want to address the root causes of your symptoms

Seek drug-free pain or symptom management
-
Are open to making lifestyle and dietary changes for optimal health

What to Expect During Your First Acupuncture Session
Your first consultation typically lasts about an hour, allowing time for a detailed discussion of your symptoms, health goals, history, and lifestyle. Brendan may assess your tongue, pulse, muscle strength, and joint mobility before providing a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnosis and recommending appropriate acupuncture techniques. Because acupuncture effects are cumulative, a course of treatments is usually suggested, with the frequency and number of sessions tailored to your individual needs.

What to Expect During Acupuncture Treatment
Please arrive in comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and be prepared to relax. While you may feel a slight sting when the needles are inserted, acupuncture is generally not painful. Once in place, you may experience sensations such as heaviness, tingling, or numbness, which are common as the needles remain for 5-30 minutes.
